Coronation Street fans have made a prediction about Betsy Swain as they rushed to praise to casting of DS Lisa Swain’s daughter. Viewers of the ITV soap first learnt Swain had a daughter in scenes aired last month.
Despite Swain being the reason Carla Connor’s friend Roy Cropper was behind bars, charged with the suspected murder of missing teen Lauren Bolton, Carla was seen being sympathetic to the stressed-out detective and mum as she tried to crack the case, with newcomer Kit Green on her tail.
In return for being a sympathetic ear, despite Carla lying about her nephew Bobby Crawford’s false statement to the police about the night Lauren disappeared in a bid to help Roy, Swain encouraged the newly freed street stalwart to make amends with Carla before the Underworld boss offered Swain’s daughter some work experience.

But before her identity was revealed, she was known for being Sabrina Adetiba’s mate. Her first appearance in Weatherfield came after Sabrina was found by Joel Deering in a state of distress outside the police station, having learnt that her brother had been arrested. Quick to offer his help, the solicitor handed her his business card and told her to give him a call.
The solicitor, who fans know is a wrong’un as he’s behind the disappearance and presumed murder of missing Lauren Bolton, later conveniently bumped into Sabrina in the precinct, where they both had a coffee. Joel then tempted Sabrina with alcohol as he poured some into her coffee and pretended to pour some into his cup but he didn’t.
Seemingly trying to impress Sabrina, who was a bit of a love rival to Lauren when she first arrived in Weatherfield, Joel told her she reminded him of an ex, adding that he was “punching” with his former partner, leaving the teen flattered. However, Sabrina’s mate headed over and pointed out Joel was a creep, warning she should steer clear.
She took his card and pretended to chuck it in the bin, only to keep it for herself. And later, viewers seemingly saw why as the currently unknown newcomer confronted Joel and tried to blackmail him, warning she has a “big gob” and would expose his creepy behaviour.
Then, during Friday’s episode (June 28), Betsy made a surprise appearance at Joel’s engagement party and demanded money. A stunned Joel hurriedly escorted her away before reluctantly giving her the cash. By the end of the episode, her identity was confirmed as DS Swain met her daughter in the precinct park, where they had a confrontation before Swain insisted Betsy get in the car and head home.
Following the scenes, Corrie fans flocked to social media, with many saying they ‘knew it’ after already working out Betsy’s link to Swain, to praise the casting of Sydney Martin in the role and also pondered whether she could be the key to Joel’s downfall.
